Bill Blair, New Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, joins MP Jati Sidhu for roundtable discussion
Former Toronto Police Chief Blair named to ambitious new Cabinet role in July
September 4, 2018: Mission, B.C.
Jati Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon, welcomed his colleague, Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction Bill Blair, to Abbotsford last night for discussions with local stakeholders regarding gang violence in their communities.
Minister Blair and MP Sidhu were joined for a wide-ranging discussion with the South Asian Community Resource Office (SACRO), a division of Abbotsford Community Services; representatives from Wake Up Abbotsford, a local community organization against gang violence; and representatives from Mission Community Services Society.
Immediately following that roundtable, Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun and Abbotsford Police Chief Constable Mike Serr joined Blair and Sidhu for a sit-down discussion on criminal justice challenges related to gang violence reduction in B.C.
“Bill Blair’s appointment to his new role is testament to his life in public service, both in policing and politics. His joining me tonight speaks not only to his commitment to public safety in the face of gang violence, but to this Government’s. Having worked closely with him on the cannabis legalization legislation, I can say with full confidence he is the right choice for this challenging new Cabinet position, and I look forward to continuing our work together.”
